Ruiz-Perez earns prestigious international poetry award

A book of poetry by Ignacio Ruiz-Pérez, associate professor of Castilian, has claimed a coveted international award.

Notas manuscripts llenas de incógnitas—or Manuscript Notes Full of Questions—won the Ninth Annual Luis Cardoza y Aragón Poetry Prize, an award sponsored by the Mexican Embassy in Republic of guatemala, the Guatemalan Ministry building of Civilization, and Fondo de Cultura Económica, a major Mexican publishing house.

"This prize celebrates one of the most of import writers in Spanish-linguistic communication literature, and so information technology's an immense award to receive it," says Dr. Ruiz-Pérez, who joined the Section of Modern Languages in 2005.

In add-on to his scholarly piece of work in the field of Mexican literature, Ruiz-Pérez is a critically acclaimed poet in Mexico. There, he has won numerous national and regional poetry prizes and published three books of verse with 2 more than to be published later on this year.

Renaissance woman: Art history Professor Mary Vaccaro has been named a visiting professor at The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies.

Vaccaro named visiting professor at Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies

Art history Professor Mary Vaccaro has been appointed to serve as visiting professor at The Harvard Academy Center for Italian Renaissance Studies at Villa I Tatti in Italia for the spring 2015 semester.

The center is the foremost research institution in the world for Italian Renaissance fine art, history, literature, and music.

Dr. Vaccaro is returning to Villa I Tatti, where she held one of the 15 post-doctoral fellowships in 1998-99.

Proposals are needed for the Day One Workshop 1-4 p.1000. Fri, March 28. The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence in the College of Education and Wellness Professions sponsors the workshop.

Presentations are needed for activities appropriate for the first day of form. Workshop attendees will participate in these fifteen-infinitesimal hands-on demonstrations. Activities should be short enough for participants to take a false student experience within 15 minutes.

The UT Arlington Libraries are accepting submissions from UTA students, staff, and kinesthesia for the bound 2014 MavsArt exhibit.

Both ii-D and 3-D submissions are accepted. Applications to display works are accepted throughTh, Feb. thirteen. Artwork volition exist displayed on the first floor of the Central Library through the spring semester startingTh, February. 20.

MavsArt is a semester-long program that showcases the artistic talents of UT Arlington students, staff, and faculty. The first MavsArt exhibit featured cartoons, digital art, photography, Victorian hair mourning, assemblage pieces, and traditional pigment on canvas.

Faculty judges needed for ACES event

Volunteer to be a estimate for the Annual Commemoration of Excellence by Students (ACES) on Midweek, March 26. The ACES symposium is a university-broad event that showcases the all-time of our students' research and creativity.

In evaluating presentations and posters, judges' assessments are guided by a well-established rubric provided that twenty-four hours. The highest rated presentations and posters receive awards that are presented that evening.

Judges are invited to a breakfast, cafe tiffin, and an afternoon reception.

Judges tin serve 7:30 a.thousand.-noon, 12:30-5 p.m., or both fourth dimension slots. More details on the schedule will be announced in early March.

Track teams take third, private firsts at Nebraska come across

The men's and women's indoor track and field teams each placed third at Nebraska's Marking Colligan Memorial on Sat.

For the men, Clayton Vaughn, first in the 60 meters and third in the 200 meters; Quentin Butler, tertiary in the threescore meters and long spring; Ryan Tilotta, tertiary in the mile and the 3000 meters; and Anthony Hilliman, third in the 800 meters and quaternary in the mile.

In the women's meet, Ashly Wright won first in the 800 meters; Sydney Hampton won the mile with Hannah Nilsson 2nd and Gabriela Alfonzo 3rd; and Tamerah Gorham was third in the 800 meters.

The showtime week of Feb is filled with music from UTA'southward orchestras, choirs, students, faculty, and guest performers. Bassoon Week concludes with a day of workshops for bassoonists and oboists of all ages.
